Cactus Growing Instructions

Most succulents and cacti grow for only a few months out of every year and for the rest of the time they are resting and have very few needs. In a more humid climate most of these plants need almost no water when they are resting. Keep in medium sun, direct sunlight most of the time but not during heatwaves at least until it grows. Use rain water or distilled water as tap water will cause the plant to stop growing at some point. Avoid wetting the bodies of these plants while they are in sunlight. Bottom watering is the easiest and best way to maintain these plants, but the soil almost always needs to remain dry when the plants are resting. No need for fertilizer. Use cactus soil or make your own using a very course rocky mix with only very small amounts of sand and organic matter.
