Stevia Growing Instructions Print

Stevia

Select a sunny location that receives six hours of direct sunlight every day. Prepare the soil by tilling to a depth of 8 to 10 inches. Remove any rocks or debris. Mix generous amounts of well-rotted manure or compost into the existing soil, and rake smooth.
Plant seedlings once temperatures remain in the 50s and 60s Fahrenheit. Space 18 inches apart in rows spaced at 24 inches. Stevia will grow to 30 inches or more in height and may attain a width of 20 inches. Water well to saturate the soil.
Water when the soil begins to dry. Stevia does not like soggy soil and will suffer from over-watering. Monitor soil conditions carefully until you establish a regular routine of watering.
Fertilize with a fertilizer light in nitrogen (5-10-10) if growth appears to slow. Never apply fertilizer more than every six weeks, following the directions on the product.
