Tarragon Growing Instructions Print

Start Tarragon seeds off in pots around April. Sow four or five seeds per pot in moist potting soil. Cover them with compost or soil to exclude light. Keep them indoors at room temperature. 18+ degrees Celsius required for sprouting. Planting in Peat Pellets will make transplanting simple and ensure the roots are not disturbed.

The plants need a warm, dry environment, both day and night. Start seedlings indoors well before the last frost in your area. Transplant seedlings outdoors when the weather warms, spacing them 1 1/2 to 2 feet apart. Fertilizer always helps, but is only necessary in the poorest of soils. Allow the soil to dry between watering. Tarragon will do best, if the soil is slightly dry.
